Wedding Notes: Anne's Gown!

Hello Brides!

Love is in the air! It has been a busy September! We have had weddings after weddings and still have a bunch more coming up for October.

I wanted to take this time to congratulate on of my favorite actress's that was married recently and to celebrate what an awesome gown she wore on her big day!

So CONGRATS to Anne Hathaway and Adam Shulman.

Anne's dressed was designed by the great Mr. Valentino Garavani.  He designed it especially for Anne and the seamstresses at the couture atelier in Rome made it!  A representative for Valentino shared that, "Anne is like a daughter to him."

The representative also confirmed that the dress was made of ivory silk point d'esprit tulle, had a train embroidered with satin flowers and was hand-painted a soft pink hue.  Hathaway's 1920s-inspired headpiece consisted of a lace ribbon with a large flower, adorned with small crystal beads.

ALL I CAN SAY IS..... WOW!!!

Please feel free to leave your comments.

Wedding Notes: Brides Beware!

Hello Brides!

I have helped numerous brides find "The Gown" with any type of budget, for all kinds of weddings.  I think budgets for brides have become more and more of a concern.  Most brides want an awesome gown, or even the gown of their dreams for a price they can afford. I understand!! And I can say with confidence there is a way to get that gown but you have to be smart!!

Just today I had a bride come in, who already has a gown, bring me a picture of a couture gown she longs to have for her wedding.  She came to ask me if it is possible for us to order this gown for her.  Sadly it was not, it is a discontinued style.  She then tells me that she has found a website that she can purchase the gown for only $400! What a deal I say to her, then I ask is it a reputable site??

We look at the site together and I help her determine this is not a good idea!!

Brides Beware!!! If it seems to good to be true it just might be!

With my help I then guided her to some sites that actually would have the gown, of course it was not at that price.  Brides, please be careful!.  There are many convincing websites out there.  Most will say they can order or even make this dream couture gown.  It's simply NOT TRUE!! I have seen many a bride come into us sad, depressed and totally defeated that have ordered gowns online from these less then reputable sites.

Mori Lee a fantastic designer and yes one of the designers that we carry has a listing on their site.

Here is the List:

Please be aware that purchasing gowns on the Internet through a non-authorized Mori Lee retailer IS NOT recommended by Mori Lee. By doing so, you will be receiving a counterfeit gown of much lesser quality that looks nothing like our gown or maybe not even a gown at all!

So Brides, my tip is simple.  Shop Smart! If you go to a bridal store ask the consultant to work within your budget, check out the sale racks, or even ask to buy the sample.

Your dream dress is out there and you can get it no matter your budget!

Wedding Notes: What's Underneath!

Hello Brides!

It's definitely wedding time here at Perfect Weddings.  We are seeing alot of brides! So as I was helping a bride dress for her first fitting appointment I got to wondering....

Brides do you know that a proper bra can not only make your gown look great but cut down on alterations??!!

So Brides my tip for the day.. Get A Good Bra!

So my brides you have found your perfect gown that has the look and features that you were searching for.  Whether simple or ornate it has everything that you could possibly want, now comes alterations.  A skilled alterations expert (trust me we have them here!!) can make the gown fit beautifully but sometimes they need help.

Some designers construct a wedding gown with a built in corsets, others do not.  That can come as a surprise to a bride, most thought corsets have gone out with the end of the Civil War; but a designer who added the proper "infrastructure" to the gown knew what they were doing.  BUT...if they did not it now becomes even more important to add that proper structure.

We recommend a corset or long line bra.  These bras not only hold you in but help the gown contour to your body.  The proper bra can help you feel and look your very best on this important day.

Last bit of advice, if you are unsure of your size please check with local bridal salons or a store that can properly fit you into the bra.  Also, make sure you choose either a simple white or flesh color.  That will make the bra much easier to camouflage.

Last but not least, try the bra on with the gown.  IF it does not work do not hesitate to ask for assistance from you seamstress, consultant or alterations expert!

We want you to beautiful and comfortable in not only your gown but everything underneath it as well!! ;)

Wedding Notes: Gifts for the Bridesmaids!

Hi Brides!

Its officially the start of August.  Lots of heat and Lots of weddings are in the plans for this month! I have seen a lot of brides in lately for last minute items.  As I was assisting a bride today on what she should get her bridesmaids, I got to wondering.  As a bride do you know that its important to buy your bridesmaids a special gift?

So Brides, my tip this week! Buy your bridesmaids a gift!!

If you are wondering if you NEED to buy them gifts, the answer is no.  But before you heave a sigh of relief, think about what those 3 or 4 or even 5 friends are doing for you.  They are buying a dress of your choice, shoes and maybe a headpiece of some sort.  They are giving up a weekend for you.  They are attending one or more showers on your behalf and are no doubt giving you a wedding gift besides.  So Brides, give your bridesmaids a little something to say thank you for being a part of the most important event of your life.

What to give? Jewelry, accessories, personal items, monogrammed items or items in their personal favorite colors are great ideas!

More and more brides are electing to host a spa day for all the attendants.  A day of personal attention and luxury is great way to thank those important ladies.  Another great idea a bride told me she did for her maids, sending them flowers.  Who doesn't love a bunch of flowers delivered to your work or home?

So Brides, the most important element is that its not the actual gift but what it means to your bridesmaids!  That you appreciate their support, attention and love!

Wedding Notes: Bridesmaids!

Hello Brides! Well its sure has been an interesting few days.  We hope everyone is safe and has power.  We are currently still half-way in the dark, but we are open and carrying on.  Today when I was standing in the dark next to our bridesmaids dresses, it got me thinking.... Why are most bridesmaids in the dark when it comes to weddings?

So Brides my insightful bit info today is ..take control of your bridesmaids.

When you are ask your friends, cousins, sisters to be a bridesmaids they should be aware they have several responsibilities.  The first and one of the most important is being flexible about what color the dresses will be and what dress is actually chosen.  As a Bride, you should be understandable but if you have a vision of what you would like your girls to wear then by all means they should be opening to wearing that attire.  What I don't understand is the one bridesmaid who stands there and complains, "I don't do short dresses" or " Are you sure you like that color?"  Who's day is it anyways?!

Brides Be Brave!! Stand up and say "YES I like that color, YES that is the dress!"  By no means am I saying you should be come the dreaded "Bridezilla", but please stand up and take control of those bridesmaids.  Be firm but gentle.

As a Bride this is your special day, your bridesmaids should be understanding of that and support you even in the most ugliest dress that they have ever put on! ;)

Wedding Notes!

 Brides...Share your colors!

So Brides, you really need to let everyone and I mean everyone in on what color your wedding is going to be.  Most especially the mother of the groom!  I know you think you wonderful fiance is going to let her know something so simple, but not so.  Some grooms can be very color focused and know the difference between rose, tea rose and fuchsia. Sadly most do not! So if you want everyone to coordinate ( and I know you do) let your soon to be mother-in-law in on the color of the bridesmaids, flowers, the tuxes and so on.  Even more helpful can be to let her know what color you think not only looks fabulous on her but will look great with the wedding, will corrdinate with your mom and with pictures!

My reason for this first tidbit, was the MOG (mother of the groom) I had today.  Poor thing had no idea what color the wedding was, what color she should be wearing, what color the MOB was wearing!  In these types of cases we recommend a nice blender or neutral color.  That way she will look good standing next to anyone in pictures, and flowers will look great even in bright colors. My MOG came away with a beautiful soft sable color gown.  My thought though is just think what color she might have worn .... hmmm could have been scary!

So Brides, my tidbit is share those colors with everyone! Trust me it will make for a beautiful wedding!

Please feel free to send me questions and comments!

The Waist

What woman would not like a tiny waist in her wedding gown?  The general rule is that the waist is the smallest part of your torso.  Certain gowns can accentuate or create a smaller waist or can have the opposite effect.  Here are some helpful tips and pointers!

Short:
-Best gown choice for you to try is a gown that sits at the natural waistline!

Long:
-Try a dropped waist. A drop waist can sit on the hip and will help create or accent a smaller waist!

Small:
-You are a lucky girl! You can wear just about any kind of waist line!  Even an Empire waist line can look great!

-Try adding a beaded belt or sash to bring attention to your small waist.

Average:
-You can wear almost any style!  Look for a style that will bring all the elements together.  A dress that will balance out your bust, waist, and hips!

Thick:
- Ruching or pleating is a great go to!  Especially if the ruching or pleating is asymmetrical.  This pulls the eye and creates a smaller waist.

-An A-line gown that balances your Shoulders and your Hips will help pull the waist in.

-Adding a sash or beaded belt can help the waist appear smaller.

-Try a gown that has a corset or lace-up back.  This type of gown can be pulled tighter and to your body shape.  This also helps shape your waist, making it appear tinier.

-Avoid straight gowns, you have curves and we want your gown to accentuate those curves!

It's ALL about THE DRESS!!

It's all about the dress!

The Bust

Your bust is an important part of the gown.  Since its close to your face it should be a factor when deciding on the neckline of your gown.  Its important too that your bust be relatively equal to your hips in proportion.  Here are some quick tips for Small and Large bust lines.

Small Busts:

-Sweetheart necklines can add some curves to your bust.

-Try on a gown that has ruching or embellishments across the bust to help accent a smaller bust line.

-Vertical pleating or ruching can help add fullness to a small bust.

-Padded bra cups (our #1 pick) can help add to your bust line creating fullness and roundness, oh and give a little lift.

-With a small bust you can wear a plunging or V-neckline.

-Try wearing a Halter neckline to accentuate cleavage.

-A more fashion-forward option is the bikini top.  This is a neckline that has a knot in the middle with the option of a small spaghetti strap.

-An Empire waist can also help accentuate a smaller bust.

Larger Busts:

-A slight dip in a bust line of the gown can soften a larger bust line. (if you gown does not have this dip, you have it adjusted in alterations)

-An A-line is great for balancing out a larger bust and a hip line.

-Sometimes more coverage is needed, a tip-of-the-shoulder neckline can do that.

-A big NO-NO can be a straight across neckline.  This can make your bust look bigger and make your shoulders appear broader.

-Try and Avoid Halter necklines.

-Deep sweethearts may not be a good choice, they can make your bust look too round and show too much cleavage.

-Be careful with sheath gowns, they can give the illusion of you being top heavy.

It's All About THE DRESS!

Arms!
Most women have some insecurities or image issues with their arms.  Some are not comfortable  enough to go sleeveless or strapless, here are some pointers to help accentuate any arm type!

Thin Arms:
-If you want to make your arms appear larger, try covering them with a sleeve!
-If a sleeve can't be added to your gown, try a bolero, jacket, or shrug!
-Try on an elgant pair of long gloves!
-Wear a coordinating wrap or stole!
-Avoid chunky bracelets, which will make your arms look skinnier!

Average Arms:
-You're in luck and can wear most anything to look great!

Full Arms:
-If you cover your arms, try a sleeve made of a light or sheer fabric that doesn't add bulk!
-Wear a sheer lace sleeve!
-Go Strapless! Bare arms can blend in with a bare neckline and call less attention to their size!
-Consider wearing a cap sleeve!
-Wear a tip-of-the-shoulder (where the gown meets the top of the arm)gown.  Even though it will give a very small amount of covering, it may look flattering!
-Avoid wearing sleeves that are too tight!  Your arms will look like they've been stuffed into them, yuck!
-Don't wear sleeves in a heavy fabric, this will only add bulk!
-No Halters! This will draw attention to your arms!

It's all about THE DRESS!

"What works best on my body?"  That is the number one question that we hear from brides when they come to try on gowns.  Most women want the shape of their body to be curvy, feminine and have the hourglass figure.  For the month of January we are going to help you with a few tips on finding the right dress starting from shoulders on down!

SHOULDERS!

* You want your shoulders to be in balance with your hips.  They should be approximately the same width to create a beautiful silhouette.*

 For Narrow Shoulders
-Try an off the shoulder gown. This will help round out your narrow shoulder line.
-Try a tip-of-the-shoulder gown, this gown is where the top of the shoulder meets the top of the arm.
-Avoid halter dresses!  They will make your shoulders look even smaller.

For Average Shoulders
-Good News! You can wear most necklines.

For Broad Shoulders
-Try an A-line or a full skirt this will help balance out your top.
-Try a sweetheart neckline.  This will help soften the shoulder line, making your shoulders seem softer.
-Avoid halter dress! They will accentuate your broad shoulders.
-Avoid straight dress!  They will make you look like the letter "T".

For more tips stay tuned!  Here at Perfect Weddings, we are trained bridal consultants and we can help you find that "Perfect" dress that will not only look gorgeous but make you feel gorgeous too!
